MR. PHILLIPS: Alright, let’s begin the spelling bee. Miss Andrews, can you give us the spelling of the word chrysanthemum?
PRISSY ANDREWS: Chrysanthemum. C-h-i, no r-i -s -a -n-s-m -u-m.
MR. PHILLIPS: Perhaps we’ll turn our attention to your spelling now that you mathematics is well in hand. Gilbert, chrysanthemum.
GILBERT: Chrysanthemum. C-h-r-y-s-a-n-t-h-a-m-u-m.
MR. PHILLIPS: Hmm. Anne?
ANNE: Chrysanthemum. C-h-r-y-s-a-n-t-h-e-m-u-m.
MR. PHILLIPS: Correct.
JOSIE PYE: Hey, Anne! How do you spell freckles?
DIANA: Hey, Josie! How do you spell ugly?
GILBERT: Congratualations on the spelling test, Anne. Oh, well at least you’re acknowledging me now. That’s an improvement.
ANNE: It is impolite to pass a person without at least nodding, and so I nod out of elementary good breeding, nothing more.
GILBERT: Oh, why don’t you get off your high horse?
ANNE: Thank you for your heartfelt congratulations, Mr. Blythe. But allow me to inform you that next time I shall be first in every subject.
In summation, I bought Chrysanthemums to liven up my bedroom, and it reminded me of this scene from Anne of Green Gables. You were wondering where I was going with that, weren’t you?
So, I’m all set up in my new bedroom. First night in the apartment.
(And yes, that is Max from ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ behind me)
Now that everything I brought with me is more or less set up, I’m really impressed with my supreme packing skills. Joke’s on you, Air Canada baggage allowance.
Guess what I found today? A perfectly good desk sitting by a dumpster. I would like to claim the title ‘Victor of All Things Free’. I hauled that baby back to the apartment and up three daunting flights of stairs. Impromptu furniture moving is my new fitness plan.
Not too shabby, right? This picture is lying, it’s actually a glorious shade of teal
This evening I met up with some of my new SFU Master of Publishing colleagues for some caffeinated beverages at Calhoun’s . Nice to meet some of the folks I’ll be in very close contact with over the next year or so.
I don’t remember the last time I was this excited to sleep in a bed. Here goes.
